This small, low-lit rectangular bar is one of Shanghai's best Japanese-style cocktail bars. Make your choice from the extensive cocktail menu and one of the well-trained bartenders will expertly craft your selection. If you want a quiet place for a perfectly mixed drink, this is one of the best venues in the city.

Decent environment. And good, if too pricy, whiskey. But the sleazy waiters and bartenders are a real turnoff.

Great cocktail & whisky bar, classy old fashioned ambiance... Extensive menue, very good japanese bartenders, a great choice of whiskies. A great place!

It is a bar that serves wonderful cocktails, mixed to the T. But they also have a focus on single malt scotch at this location and bourbon at their peoples square local. Go here... order cocktails all night (if you can afford it), you won't go home unhappy.

Oh, I must have been mistaken - I was under the impression that the cocktails my friends and I had were really quite good. They were fairly strong and tasted delicious. But that's just my opinion, and hey, what would an Irish guy know about alcohol eh? Don't get the cocktails, even though they are on the menu, because it's a whiskey bar, and you should only drink whiskey there (even though City Weekend calls it a cocktail bar)

nice place, but a review or a warning, it is a whiskey bar, which means like the other review, don't get cocktails, it is style Japanese run, so everything is measured by measuring cup , sweet or not it's made by the cocktail bible.

Nipped into constellation for my first time last week for my girlfriends birthday. Had heard good things, and wanted her to have a nice time. And we did have a nice time. Waiters looked after us well, cocktails were of superb quality, and the bar has a nice intimate setting. I don't go to this type of bar very often, mostly because the drinks are pretty expensive, but I'll probably go back for a special occasion. The only downside to the bar is it's clientele - pretentious wannabe elite - but you can't really blame the bar for that, as high prices (as opposed to good drinks) will bring in a particular type of crowd.

We were extremely disappointed with Constellation. To sum up: They cheated us. So I definitely recommend everyone avoid it. And I'll explain why... We were a group of 4 and sat upstairs (Wednesday, April 13 at about 9pm). We didn't want so much smoke from downstairs and upstairs didn't have smokers. Once we sat down, my friend immediately asked for Black Label, his Whiskey of choice. So they replied that they don't have it. That's not a problem, every venue has different drinks. Three of us ordered mixed juices (2 Cindarellas and 1 Fruit Punch). And then the waiter came back with Black Label, saying they can sell it to us but they normally only use it for mixed drinks. At that point I thought: good, they checked for what we want and got it for us. We asked for a double and he said it is 120rmb, which is on the expensive side for a double of Black Label. But we said ok. The first drink to arrive was the whiskey, although it was the last drink ordered. We waited for a long time, and finally called the waiter and asked about the other drinks. He said they forgot to put in the order. After a long wait, they brought the drinks. We were not thrilled about the delay, but service everywhere can be slow. After we finished, they brought the bill and it was 520 RMB!! It was HAND-WRITTEN, and on the "receipt" was a cindarella drink and a fruit punch also hand-written and 60RMB written next to each. Then on the bottom a magical hand-written figure of 520rmb. We know that each of the fruit drinks was 60rmb - already expensive for each. So 3 x 60rmb = 180rmb. And for the Whiskey 120 rmb, it should be a total of 300rmb. The waiter then said it is 120rmb per portion of Black Label. Crazy-expensive for Black Label! You can get a bottle for 200rmb. Ok, still, in that case the total should have been 420rmb, not 520rmb. CLEARLY, they were big cheaters. It was hand-written, miscalculated and way over-priced based on the word of mouth of the waiter. Don't tell me there is even an ounce of honesty at Constellation. They were blatantly ripping us off. Maybe they think that people there have drinks, so it is easier to rip them off. But that is bad business. In the long-term karma has got to come and bite them in the derrier. That is why I am writing this to alert people to not go to Contellation. Or at least be very alert of them cheating you if you go there (although what fun is it having drinks when you need to be so alert?).

Great bar with a large selection of cocktails. No happy hour and prices are a bit on the high side but worth it for the cool atmosphere and professional staff.

My wife and I went to the bar expecting the best from the bar, however, we were very disappointed with the service and the drink provided. The manager was rude and did not listen and the drink was too sweet. I recommend people not to visit this joint.

Wonderful choice of everything: alcohol (even rare and numbered bottles), whisky, cigars... Kin who will always make up sth special for you, if the menu choice is not enough ;) Even better the Constellation Bar in Xinle Rd! BE CAREFUL when you PAY THE CHECK (especially when you had many drinks, or you are with bigger group of friends), - coctails have higher price than it appears in card. Better check what you ordered with price list. Also happened that even the check was written for the right ammount, the gyu told us more! Asking why, he tried to make up sth. Unacceptable. The rest is just PERFECT!

Even better than the 1st. Go hear, order a real cocktail (no syrups, crazy colors, umbrellas, or redbull) and enjoy.

Pound for pound one of the best bars in the city. As other posters have noted, they pride themselves one their superior products and time honored mixing style. A gin martini is just that, gin with a splash of vermouth. You want a glass of whiskey? theres only one question, neat or on the rocks. Its simple elegant and hearkens back to a simpler time when a bar was where you went to enjoy a drink and a conversations with a small group of close acquaintances.

Great bar. Excellent drinks. So professional. Looks like it was cut right out of Wall Street. Great place to take tourists too!

Constellation 2 at Yongjia Lu is the younger, prettier sibling in the Constellation family (which is quite a small family, considering there's only two of them). The cocktails are just as strong and well-done, but the upgrade in aesthetics over Constellation on Xinle Lu cannot be understated -- I mean, besides all the comfy looking am-I-in-an-old-gentlemen's-smoking-club? furniture, this Constellation boasts one of those fancy toilets with all the buttons that do unmentionable things? (I'm not cosmopolitan enough to know what the buttons do and I didn't want to spend an exceedingly long time hogging the toilet figuring the various functions out, lest other patrons think I'm gross and judge me! If you can enlighten me with a thorough guide, by all means, get in touch...) But yeah, the drinks are good, the bartenders know what they're doin', and I happily sipped the night away with an Old-Fashioned perpetually at hand. Note: it's right at the intersection by the light up a short stairwell, in case you have trouble finding it. Also, if you have a bigger group, you definitely want to go to this Constellation (2 floors) over the very, very small Constellation at Xinle Lu.

5 stars - Reminds me of something to recreate a speakeasy. They have complimentary nuts and Japanese snacks. Bartenders are always willing to whip something special up.
