Awesome spot. One of the best hidden holes left in Shanghai. Friendly crowd and Jackie the owner loves his beer. They have big bottles of the Delirium Xmas brew available right now too.
Without a doubt, the thing that makes Jackie's so unique is that absolutely nobody goes there. It's amazing. I've been popping in on average once or twice a week with some friends for the past few months, and it's always fairly quiet. Great selection of ales, moderate prices, knowledgeable and friendly owner, intimate surroundings, your own music, no hipsters. An absolute diamond in the rough of Shanghai.
Jackie's Beernest is one of the most wonderful things you can find in Shanghai. Great selection of beer and Jackie knows something about each one. My experience here was top notch: great beers, comfortable environment (there is one large table and one smaller table, so often it is like you are sitting in your own private bar,) and Jackie let us put our music on the stereo. I have been raving about it to my friends and plan to go back as soon as I can.
Truly is a nest - like sitting in a friends basement and on the cottage lawn at the same time. The owner and usually the other guests are great for conversation and there are plenty of social lubricants to try out. Fantastic selection, great atmosphere - feels like you belong to a clubhouse.

As say Akast, the best kept secret in Shanghai. Large selection of beers, the owners are very friendly and can advice you well and with details (he knows beers). Place is small. But if you ready to sit with strangers, meet and speak with different people around a relaxing beer...this is where you must go.

For now, the best kept secret in Shanghai. Where else can you spend an enjoyable evening with complete strangers, enjoying unusual (and reasonably priced) Czech and Belgian beers. Jackie and girlfriend are fantastic hosts to boot!
