This cooking school hosts workshops spanning Sichuan, Cantonese, Shanghainese, Thai, Indonesian and Indian cuisine styles. There are also pastry classes, seasonal classes (such as hairy crab lessons in the autumn) and wet market tours, where newbies learn about navigating Shanghai's local markets. Custom-made classes are also available for those eager to tailor-make their cooking experiences.
I've taken two classes here with out-of-town guests. Class sizes are really small (one class had 3 students, the other 5). They were really accommodating-- one member of our group had a dietary restriction, so they let us change the menu for that day. The instructor was really friendly and helpful, though his English wasn't great and I ended up doing a lot of translating for the group. Anyway, it was fun and a lot cheaper than the other schools out there. And I am now convinced (mistakenly, I'm sure) that I make an awesome yuxiang eggplant. [Btw, the above address is out-of-date--- they moved to nicer digs on Dongping Rd]
I went for CCW. Really recommend it. The chef is nice and what they teach you is really practical. Very interactive. Plus, you get to eat the food afterwards... hope you'll do as good a job cooking as I did!
This is a really classy program run by a kind, engaging staff. CCW has a great selection of hands-on courses that can be tailored to different size groups, preferences in cuisine, etc. I regret not having found out about this program sooner.
I had a party here with 16 girls for my daughter's 8th birthday and it was a huge success. The staff and chefs were friendly and the kids had a great time cooking. The dim sum was the most fun for the kids but the dishes were really good. We had a full meal after the cooking and even took food home.

**Wonderful class to try while in Shanghai** The class is taught by a variety of local Chinese Chefs and Aga translates for the mainly foreign students. Generally there are 3 dishes taught at varying levels of difficulty. Although I already know a bit of chinese cooking, I found the instruction to be excellent, with the Chef Liu taking extra care the our cutting and cooking techniques were perfect. He even gave us ideas on how to modify each recipe. The class itself gets a varied group of clientel making the students almost as interesting as the course.
