This Buddhist temple complex dates 1,700 years, but it is one of the most active in the capital area. Set on the slope of a mountain, it gets very loud and crowded on weekends when the faithful pile in. One thing not to miss is the ancient graveyard below the temple (to the side of the parking lots). These massive stupas are centuries old and practically unvisited. They represent the final resting place for some of the luminaries of the Buddhist world, including the Japanese monk who brought Zen to Japan. Take subway line 1, then public bus 941 to the temple.
