Over 1,400 years old, this sprawling temple is the place to go west of Beijing for a little quiet contemplation. It's famous for the number of "ancient trees" which dot the grounds as well as the Ordination Platform where monks were received into the Buddhist order. Get there: subway line 1 to Pingguoyuan then public bus 941 to the temple.
