I now know of a good place to take my pets when they get ill. My pets mean a lot to me so thank you for sharing this information.

My friend's daughter brings her rabbit and guinea pigs to the ICVS. Her friends bring their turtles, lizards, hamsters and gerbils there too. They seem to be able to handle any of the pets the kids bring in. I spayed my dog at ICVS and was very pleased at the way they took care of her and the price was very reasonable. I was able to drop my dog off the night before the spay at no extra charge. They were very caring and attentive and my dog still enjoys going there. This is a great hospital that I would recommend to every pet owner.

Hi, Most vet treats only dogs and cats. I own guinea pigs and they are 6 months old. Does this vet know how to treat guinea pigs ?

All doctors and nurses are so kind. They did a very careful examination for my dog, who is a stray dog and got hit by a car. The accident has left her with a broken hip bone. I especially appreciate Mary Peng, who offered much help and lend me a dog cage for free.

July 31, 2007 Dear Ms. Dura, We are very sorry to hear of the loss of your puppy, Pump. We understand how upsetting this is and our deepest condolences to you. Unfortunately, there is no simple blood test or other stand-alone diagnostic test for the canine distemper virus. Canine distemper is a “clinical diagnosis,” meaning that rather than attempting to confirm infection with a negative or positive test, the whole picture of the animal must be considered, including symptoms, background and vaccination history. Canine distemper is a highly fatal disease that affects dogs and especially puppies. The disease may develop as a secondary infection over time that does not present any immediate symptoms. Close monitoring and bringing the dog in for re-checks is the only way to continue to monitor for any changes in the dog’s condition. Please be aware that canine distemper is highly contagious to other dogs. To ensure the health and safety of all other dogs, please have any additional dogs in your household or any dogs that you have come into contact with vaccinated for canine distemper immediately. Please disinfect your home thoroughly with diluted bleach. Please wash with disinfectant and diluted bleach all clothing, bedding, blankets, pillows, towels, etc., that were used by or came into contact with your dog. ICVS has followed government regulations on the reporting and prevention of infectious animal diseases and has reported this case to the Animal Husbandry Bureau’s Centers for Disease Control as required by law. Both ICVS and the government take these matters very seriously. ICVS did everything we could to help Pump. There is no cure for distemper other than providing the dog with supportive care while the body mounts it own immune response Sadly, many dogs purchased from the animal markets are already sick and immune-compromised. Puppies purchased locally from breeders or markets are often separated from their mothers at too young an age, may not receive adequate nutrition and are kept in less than ideal conditions, resulting in weakened immune systems. Vaccinations are usually incomplete or were not given. Should you consider adopting another dog in the future, please check the dog’s family history and the breeder thoroughly. Many breeders or animal sellers are not properly licensed and continue to sell sick animals to unsuspecting owners. We highly recommend adopting pets from a licensed animal shelter. Please let us know the market or breeder from which you purchased Pump. We will place this vendor on our watch list and report it to the community and the Animal Husbandry Bureau for monitoring of infectious diseases. We hope to help prevent other owners from experiencing the sad tragedy that you have experienced. Again, our deepest sympathies for your loss. International Center for Veterinary Services

This place is one of the worst veterinary clinics I have ever been to. Not only do the grossly overcharge and try to think of every possible test they can talk you into to suck money out of you-- but they also ignore or perhaps are just incompetent to not recognize symptoms of some of the most serious illnesses that occur in animals. I took my puppy there because she had a cough and swollen abdomen and they said she had a cold, gave me some medicine (after also insisting on a 300RMB chest xray which-- surprise! showed nothing...) and said she should get better. A few days later she was much worse so I took her to a different vet, they did a simple nose swab test and confirmed that she had Canine Distemper... if tested a few days earlier she may have survived, but as it was she had become too sick and did not make it. If you love your pet I would strongly advise you take them to a different vet.
