spa review by Erica Chen from cityweekend In Full Bloom Our second time at i spa, we had no doubt that the following two and a half hours would be anything but divine. Despite their range of new promotions, we were most enticed by the Spring Package, packed with a marine salt scrub, a Chiang Mai green tea body wrap, an invigorating massage and a choice of either a free floral hotspring bath or Jurlique Basic Facial. All for just ¥1380. We began with a quick foot wash, followed by a relaxing 10 minutes in our private steam room, so relaxing that we began wondering how much it would cost to have one of these indulgences installed in our own homes. Next, was our marine salt scrub which, designed to exfoliate and purge the skin of toxins, did exactly as it was meant to do as we were soon gawking at our silky skin. A quick shower later and it was on to the hour-long green tea mask, rich in vitamins and healing agents to provide intensive nourishment for our skin. Our first body wrap, we weren’t sure what to expect, and we quickly found ourselves wrapped in saran wrap, enveloped in a blanket and covered with a thick white comforter. Secure in our cocoon, our therapist then set to work on a calming head massage before quietly leaving us to doze in peace. Minutes passed and upon our therapist's return, we were politely prompted off the bed and into the shower, where we emerged visibly refreshed and ready for our invigorating massage. Designed to energize the body and mind, we actually felt more relaxed and carefree, but no complaints there. All in all, a divine experience and, while we didn’t try either of the complimentary options, if the rest of the package and past experience area any indicators, they’re sure to be nothing short of amazing. Valentine Valentine’s Day—a day of great resentment or anticipation, depending on who you ask. But this February, couples and singles alike will have something to look forward to with I Spa’s month-long Valentine’s promotion. Taking one of its most popular packages down a notch, from ¥1,240 to ¥888, the two-hour package comes with a full-body scrub, I Spa’s signature massage and an aroma rose and red wine bath. Walking in, we were instantly enveloped by the exotic sounds and smells of Thailand, owing largely to the deep wood tones, fragrant incense and dimmed lighting. We were more than ready to embark on a much-needed pampering session, beginning with the half hour, full-body scrub. Infused with green tea extracts, the scrub helps to exfoliate dry, winter skin while soothing and conditioning even the most sensitive of skin. Next, the 90-minute I Spa signature massage, offered with a choice of four different massage oils, helped to work out the kinks that have accumulated over endless hours in front of the computer. Finally, few can (or should!) say that they enjoy drinking bathwater, but we aren't ashamed to say that we do when it comes to I Spa’s rose and red wine bath where clients are given a glass of red just before the bottle’s contents are lavishly poured into the steamy tub. Filled with AHC, red wine is both cleansing and conditioning for the skin. Upon leaving, we felt renewed, revealing a healthy glow that’s rare during the Beijing winter. Now if only we could find that special someone to enjoy our smooth skin with us. –Erica Chen Address: 5/F Tower 2, Taiyue Suites, 16 Sanlitun Nanlu. Tel: 6507-1517
I had a particularly rough day so I decided to pamper myself with a full Body Scrub, a Hot Stone Massage, and a Facial. The decor was beautiful, serene, and calming and the receptionist and therapist both put me at instant ease. The room was gorgeous, clean, and classy. With that said, the Hot Stone Massage and the Facial were nothing to rave about and certainly not worth the money I paid (which was quite a few RMB). Maybe it's because I prefer a more deep tissue massage but the Hot Stone Massage consisted of oiling me up and rhythmically rubbing hot stones all over my body. It did not work out any kinks or anything, it just felt merely warm. I have similar complaints about the facial. Here I am, hoping that they'll really get into it, get out all the whiteheads and blackheads, etc. I felt like they just constantly rubbed yet another kind of lotion on my face. Don't get me wrong, my face was glowing afterwards, but after I washed my face that night before going to bed, it was all gone. However, I loved the body scrub. It left my skin feeling super soft! I would recommend this place for the wonderful staff and beautiful decor. But if deep tissue massage and a real, get-in-there facial is what you're looking for, this place isn't it. Well, unless you have the money to drop. Then go nuts!
Thank you Rebecca!
Had an iSpa signature massage which is 90-minutes long. I get a lot of massages and can safely say this is one of the best I've ever had. Was in a state of extreme bliss and relaxation for the entire day afterwards. A really nice relaxed atmosphere and fabulous staff.
