This spacious theater regularly hosts top of the line performances of traditional Chinese acrobatics, Peking opera and crosstalk. Its regular performance, the Amazing Chinese Acrobats show, is a must-see for anyone coming through Beijing.
**Pricey, slightly threadbare but nontheless enjoyable** Saw "Beijing Chinese Opera" performance on May 10 in the small theater and was truely impressed by all the actor and musicians' performances. It was bit more vaudeville in approach than I expected with "skits" leaning toward clowning and acrobatics with lots of percussion and a bit of little stringed instruments. No wind instruments at all and only one singing performance (solo). I definitely wanted more music and fewer backflips. The stage and some of the costumes looked like they could use a cleaning and the "snack" they provide was a bottle of tea from the grocery store. The actors preparing for the next scene kept opening the back curtain and the sound of the acrobats performance next door crept in on numerous occasions. But, I was one of only about a dozen people in attendance and got front row seating for 120 RMB. They also have LCD screens to describe what's going on in English and Chinese, unnecessary in this case. A mediocre experience overall.
