This casual-chic restaurant boasts an al fresco dining area and some of the city's best cuisine by Chef Daniel Urdaneta, served by helpful and attentive wait staff. It is a great place for a first date where you can impress without going overboard.
I have two different opinion about the restaurant. For the lunch, really good food and good meal! But the cook worked at Salt or not? The menu is pretty the same, both restaurant are delicious but dishes miss quantity, and that's bad point! Service is good. 4 stars Brunch: after a review, I went with my girlfriend. We arrived late: 1 or 2 pm. The mimosa egg (50Y) is divine! delicious, amazing! My girlffriend spent a bad time with the salmon salad, waiter said is was enough, but it was not! We took an another meal but not really good. At the end we spend more than 200 yuans for not so much and we were still hungry. 2 stars. Very good restaurant but Brunch does not worth it.
I took my girlfriend here for our two year anniversary outing because it recently won some prestige as a "Romantic" spot to take your date on. The atmosphere exceeded expectations, and the food, albeit a bit pricey, was delicious. The pumpkin raviolis were out of this world!!! The Apothecary is also right next door, and it was good to have some gourmet drinks for a nite cap.
As if 50+ reviews weren't enough to show just how good Mosto is for dining.
Great food, but for me the drinks were the star of the evening. They managed to make even a simple mojito seem like a new invention. Very impressive.
The lunch menu is a fantastic deal, 70 kuai for two courses (85 gets you dessert!!). I ordered the walnut salad and a risotto, and both were very fresh and well-presented. The only thing is that the place gets incredibly busy at lunch (no surprise there) and waiters look a bit overwhelmed. Definitely will go back to try some more of the lunch menu
I am always happy to come back to this beautiful place. Perfect atmosphere, delicious food and very polite manager! Like it....
i've liked this place for a long time, and getting around to posting a review seemed unneccessary, considering the positive press this place gets, but for posteriority: went last on my birthday, for lunch, and again, i love the place. the bread is served warm, the butter is soft and spreadable when it arrives (a common failing amongst restaurants of all levels), and the service is snappy. daniel really shines in his flavors and presentation, and everything i've had here, from the polenta to matambre to the coffee, it's all been well executed when i've visited.
I have been a loyal fan of Mosto for over a year-but have never made it for brunch. Fortunately a week ago I had brunch there with a few friends from out of town and everyone was thrilled. I had the most amazing beef tartar to start and then had a delicious black truffle risotto. The service was great too-as expected. Your brunch wont be the same if you don’t try one of their bloody’s- could be one of my favorite’s in the city. I am now a huge fan of Mosto for dinner AND Brunch!
Disappointed. Yes, that's how I felt after a dinner experience recently. We arrived rather "late" (after 9:30pm) so it was not busy anymore. Service was efficient but with a "ho-hum" attitude. For that, I would have gone down to Ciro(!) downstairs... My duck entre was chewy and I even struggled trying to cut it (not cooked enough). So I had the waitress take it back for the kitchen to cook it a little bit more. It came back minutes later (too quickly!) and i wondered if they even bothered... Meanwhile, no one came to check for satisfaction. I sadly paid and left with a whole plate of suck hardly touched. After recommending this place to so many people, and this time, a visitor with me, all I can say is that Mosto needs to up the tempo...
I actually really liked this place! I'm a teen, so it was (in my opinion, because I'm so young) REALLY expensive. I was there for a friend's birthday, though, so the bill didn't bother me that much (hehe.) Anyway, I ordered the risotto with the truffles sauce with red wine and parmesan broth or something (I don't really remember what it was called) and it was good, but I think it's an acquired taste. I've never had red wine, and the taste of the alcohol put me off a bit. The waitstaff was attentive, though our waiter didn't really seem excited about workign there, if you know what I mean. I liked the head chef, though. He was extremely polite and nice. Also, it seems that a lot of people liked the atmosphere. Being of the younger generation, I thought it was kinda dark and blah, but that's just my opinion. I guess it would be perfect for dates and stuff. :)
Delicious and well-presented food without pretension, incredible wine list, great services and an amazing lunch deal. Awesome place.
The more I come to this restaurant, the more I love the whole experience. Definitely one of the best restaurants in Beijing. Kudos to the chef and his team.
In my humble opinion the best contemporary restaurant in Beijing. Outstanding wine list, menu, as well as service. Since I arrived in Beijing a weekly must. The ambiance is wonderful as well in the great little hidden gem of Nali Courtyard!
A wonderful experience all round! We have dined here numerous times and it is always faultless. From food to service, to atmosphere. Just lovely. A wonderful night out is guaranteed!
Nice and buzzy, good space, friendly staff but food was decidedly average. Not bad, just not that good (and certainly not worth 500 kuai ahead with wine).
I enjoyed dinner in Mosto so much that I ended up going two nights in a row. Everything about it was top notch, from the wine down to the attentive staff. I'll be there as much as possible during Gourmet Month, after sampling the delectable dishes-like braised beef cheek-that Chef Daniel has in store.
Mosto is a stunning example of contemporary dining. Food, presentation and ambiance are unparalleled. Do not miss out on dessert here. If you're looking to impress someone or just rekindle your love of food, Mosto is a destination that will always surpass your expectations.
After a massage at Kacoon in NaLi patio, I decieded it was time to try out the acclaimed Mosto. Ordered the Winter "tasting" menu. It was several courses, and each one was better than the last. Tuna with tamarind sauce, duck with citrus caviar, risotto with truffles, all were EXCELLENT starters and were consumed in nibbles and bits to drag out the experience. The double entrees of Atlantic salmon and succulent pork ribs were worth stuffing yourself full, after the previous 4 courses. The meat fell right off the bone for the ribs, and it was perfect portion sizes. The staff even gave our table an additional free desert to close the meal, which featured perhaps the best part of the meal, the Sichuan Pepper (Ma La) ice cream to accompany the white chocolate lava cake. Um, yeah it was ridiculous. For my first experience there, I was seriously impressed and would recommend it to anyone who can afford it.
Been visiting this place for three times since their opening. Last one was last night. I somehow personally think, food and service wise, they are improving. We arrived there a bit late in the evening and we were quite hungry so we decided to skip the starters and jumped for main course right away. Ordered cod fish with gnocchi and beef tenderloin with risotto as our main course. Both are delicious. My cod fish was cooked to perfection. The grilled beef tenderloin was good but not wow for me. But a special note for the risotto, delicious! Our dessert, passion fruit panna cotta and parfait, were both good. Overall I think Mosto has always been delivering a combination of good food, nice ambiance and efficient service. I have to admit the open kitchen thing is very similar to SALT but it's also can be found in some other restaurants around the city. Menu wise, hmm... I'm not sure if it's a copy of SALT or Alameda. It's just I think it still lacks of something. Probably some creativity in the menu. I sort of expect something more 'out-of-the-box' from the menu that kinda make me think "Wow... How did the chef even think about it?" From scale "Good", "YES!" and "Damn!" (mind blowing), probably for me it's still at "YES!" :) I will come back though.
My entree of shreaded oxtail meat was interesting followed by duck breast roulad, i think it was quite unique flavour combination. To finish i had parfait with green cardamon sc, just my personal opinion, the sauce was too strong. Service was good.
Seriously one of the best restaurants in the city. While I generally prefer summer produce and flavors to fall/winter ones (and I had an incredible shrimp, bell pepper, avocado and I think some kind of citrus fruit dish this summer), I recently tried the duck roulade. It's served with a side of passion fruit sauce (can't really go wrong there) and this pumpkin puree which is just PERFECT. I think I would be happy with just a big bowl of that pumpkin puree and nothing else. Or risotto made with that pumpkin puree. Or a pumpkin pie made from that pumpkin puree... Also, when I dug my dessert spoon into the panna cotta, I thought it felt a little too firm, but that was before I tasted it and realized that "goat's cheese panna cotta" does really taste of goat's cheese, which it's made with and which gives it its firm consistency. So delicious!
My second visit (my first was Oct 2008) recently was delightful. Service is good and food meets our expections. Wine list is decently priced too. Bravo! (Even visiting friends that I sent to Mosto just recently were pleased that I recommended this outlet.) Again, bravo!
I attended Mosto's one year anniversary party last night, and as always we were blown away by the service offered by the staff. This is the third private shindig I've enjoyed at Mosto and I always have an incredibly fun night. The entryway is the perfect place for mingling and an ad hoc dance-off...the DJ they hooked us up with was great. They also featured passed appetizers (fried codfish balls, lamb with ratatouille, duck liver with pepper jelly, salmon on egg, etc) and a open wine/beer bar. Again, I can't thank Alex and Danny enough for their hard work and hospitality...congrats on your year in Beijing.
Very very very good service, I have to say one of the best I ever had in a foreigner's place so far in Beijing. Quick, smiley and efficient, when I asked for smth (pepper, more bread, etc) I had in in the following minute). The food is very good depending on what you take (the raviolis are incredibly good), talking about the Cod (very good indeed), the pepper salad that is being served with does not match the same taste as the fish' sauce. But I would surely do something about the acoustic of that place, why not cover that ugly concrete ceiling and make the place a little cozier and quieter ?
Well this place sells because of its chef.He does some good thinking and is a committed to deliver. But the problem lies in the chinese guys cooking the food. Its inconsistent. Sometimes its good, sometimes okay, sometimes just not good. For westerners with good manners they generally dont like to complain to the chef or the manager. The manager anyway has a attitude problem if you observe him closely. What happens is you just eat as much as you like and then leave. Try the food then either Almeda or Salt (all cook on the same theme) and similar food though a little different here or there. But still its nice if your food comes tasty.
Reading through some of the reviews I can't understand how some people believe the black cod here tastes that great. The sides were awesome but I came to this place expecting a full flavored fish, and have prepared better black cod fish by myself with only a sparse amount of seasoning/ marinating. Needless to say I was disappointed and will not be returning anytime soon.
This is a good restaurant, atmosphere is great, small intimate bistro with great crowd, it was packed on dinner the day we went. Menu selection was great, simple and straight from start, main and finish. I had the steak, salmon, salad and banana panacotta, it was all not bad overall. Dessert was great! However it is slightly pricey, you can definitely get a bit more bang for your back on other restaurants opening up. I wouldn't complaint too much on the restaurant, it's just garbage was taken out right in front of us, really ruined the dinner...
I have been tracking this place The Almeda happened then Salt and now this place It has similar menus like Almeda and Salt and the food is also quite similar. Prices are also similar. The service is also fine. Nothing to complain
Mosto is excellent. Amazing food, creative presentation, friendly/good service, excellent wine, lovely ambience and decor, and a convenient location. The outdoor seating is lovely overlooking the courtyard, and the glass-walled kitchen is a nice feature also. It is, however, very pricey...mains ranged from RMB120-RMB225(ish?) - if you add on top of that an entree, a glass of wine or two, dessert...you're looking at RMB 600 easy per couple. Just warning you! :)
This place is yet another copy of Alameda and Salt but not nearly as good. The arrogant manager at Mosto is rude and the staff are slightly impolite. It doesnt have the atmopshere as good as Salt and the food is not as interesting. I was disappointed as I expected to find something innovative but innovation requires original ideas and Mosto has none. It is also a bit like a pub and not a restaurant and you can hear the next door bars and night clubs, not very classy. My advice is to stick with the originals.
I had no idea there were restaurants inside the Nali shopping building. It's easy to find though because there's a little guide map when you walk to the elevators. Upon the third floor, you can eat outside along the balcony or inside. I had a table next to the glass kitchen and could see everything going on. Octopus Salad (70RMB) was delicious. Black Cod Fish (180RMB) was cooked perfectly. For the quality of food, this was REALLY affordable. Great atmosphere with dark wood and exposed bricks with the candles. Nice chill place to bring guests.
Innovative, loud, bold, and just outstanding. From top to bottom, a great dining experience in a cool and casual environment. Dishes are well-portioned and the wine list, epic. Love it!
There is not too much surprise, and similar as alameda. I don't understand why the chef stay so much time at the front.
Food is decent and the service is alright.....but I agree that it's too much of a Alameida and Salt's clone......down to the menu style, the pricing, the decor, and even some of the dishes! I can see why Chef Daniel might want to keep his successful formula. But with all these new restaurants opening in Beijing, the only way to ensure success is to innovate and surprise the customers, not to give us more of the same.
excellent
An overall acceptable, if underwhelming, experience. Though all of the dishes my companion and I tried were good, none rose to the level of great. Choosing from a rather confused pastiche of cuisines all tossed together that ran from Mexican-inspired to Italian-inspired to Asian-inspired (in a relatively small menu) it was hard to find logical pairings. My friend started with a black-bean foam (soup) that was, honestly, good, but just seemed out of place with everything else we ate (and anything else I can think of on the menu). I started with a potato/guacamole/shrimp "napolean" that was also tasty, but equally orphaned as pairings go. For seconds I had beef cheeks and my friend had the steak. Both were good - the steak was actually one of the better ones I've tasted in Beijing. A good cut of meat, cooked just right, and not over-seasoned. My beef cheeks were cooked great as well, but were completely drowned in an overly-rich reduction that was borderline mole, it was so heavy and rich. We skipped desert. I'm surprised by the number of people that have mentioned value in their reviews - I definitely found it to be overpriced. For the prices paid at Mosto, I can think if several 5-star restaurants within a stone's throw that would net a more memorable meal. All in all, a disappointment, though serviceable.
while simple, the ambiance and presentation at mosto reflect a wonderful dedication to the cuisine. i recently stopped by for brunch, which is a terrific value if you're interested in just trying the place out, and was rewarded with a wonderful weekend afternoon. my companion and i were quickly greeted at the door by chef daniel's welcoming smile, which started a trend of efficient, excellent service. the waitstaff gave us a perfect amount of time to peruse the menu and were generally helpful and present, but unintrusive. my bloody mary was excellent, well mixed and punchy. we both ordered crepes, which came austerely, but cleanly presented. the flavors were well balanced, with my chicken, tarragon and emmental enveloped in a folded crepe and bechamel (perhaps a tad too heavy for brunch, but definitely worth it). the absence of a 5th (i would give a half more) star reflects my companion's crepe being charred on one end, along with unwieldy menus long on statement but not on practicality (minor quibbles both, but perfection requires such things). i definitely plan to return soon for dinner, as the bar set by my experience is higher than most places i've recently dined.
Alameida and Salt's copycat but more expensive and not as cool
Nice decoration, good food with affordable price. You should definitely try their beef tenderloin with chanterelle mushrooms. And chocolate soufflé is also a must try for chocolate lovers:)
Chef Daniel was the chef at Salt, and inspired that restaurants success. Dining as Mosto, you could be forgiven for thinking you were at Salt. That is not a complaint. Great consistent food, good service. Convenient location (although parking in that area can be difficult).
Great lunch set menu (rmb 70 for 2 courses and rmb 85 for 3 courses) - ate the fresh sea bass with mango salad, tender beef medallions and yummy creme brulee. Will definitely be back.
a pleasant place with minimalist decor and open plan station.here provides delicate Mediterranean dishes.Chefs' adept kitchen skill contribute a wonderful dining experience! The beef tendorlion medallion is succulent and excellent with the grilled potatos in black truffle sauce. The chocolate souffle with molten white chocolate filling is rich but not greasy,i ordered the arugula salad with shaked parmesan cheese for my starter,to be honest,i don't think the cheese flavor is good for me.In a word, this place is worth of coming again.
Tried this place for dinner a while back and was very pleased. The price for the set dinner was OK (like Alameda and SALT) and I think the dining room was pretty cool and dynamic. The service and food was very good and we where overall happy.
Mosto is quite simply one for the best additions to Beijing's dining scene in the past year - a simple concept well executed. Great food, an excellent value-for-money winelist (thankfully free of the 'supermarket' style winelists of other restaurants), and staff who seem to care about what they do. Well worth a visit.
Good European food in sleek surroundings much in the same vein as nearby Alameda. Short Ribs were deliciously tender & thoughtfully balanced with crunchy shredded potato, vegetarian option not quite up to scratch. Classics on the menu; onion soup, creme brulee, were well done. Nicely busy on a Monday night, service was great if a little cold. Decent value, I expect to go back.
Great evening of romance. Ambiance will surely set the mood. excellent food, great wine list and service. One of the best new open restaurants in Beijing.
Heard rave reviews about this newbie on the block, but honestly, we were not exceptionally impressed. Food was ok, not fantastic. Portions were small, so not recommended for big eaters. Chocolate Souffle was delectable, but not especially outstanding. Ambience was only "acceptable" for that kind of price range, I feel. Servers at the restaurant were a little stony and not particularly friendly, I must say. They need to smile more! Highly unlikely that we will go back again soon.
Went here for lunch, and was not impressed! Food was too salty for most items in set lunch (ordered almost all within our group). The place is set up nice though, and the staff is very efficient, friendly, and maybe the best English speaking in the area. If the prices of set lunch remain the same it's OK, but don't think they will... Never liked the food in Salt, and didn't like it here; this chef is not for me. Having said that: try it for yourself and make up your mind about the cooking of him! It's indeed worth the trouble of finding the place!
I've been back 3 days the last week, so I've pretty much tried out their entire lunch sets :) I love the pumpkin soup, and it's nice to sit outside and enjoy the sun (as long as it's warm enough in Beijing).
I was thoroughly impressed with the quality of the food; any dish you could find in front of you is better than could be expected, chef Daniel once again excellent. Funky wine list, cool ambience, perfect music selection! This is a really fun place, great to take a date!
hum drum boo hoo. why oh why do people open places that are new but not new, they are blue. the same the same the same. stick with what I like. Alameda back there I go. Its been around and will stay, Metro, Mare too. Mosto will come and go. I will enjoy my old favorites that I know will stay. Another poor imitation. again again, why oh why. what a waste of time.
We absolutely love this place which is a welcome addition to the Beijing dining scene. We have been here several times since their opening and each time the fish dishes were fresh and wonderfully prepared, the salads were interesting and delicious and the chocolate soufflé with spicy vanilla ice cream is out of this world. They have a great moderately-priced wine list; and we love the fact that one of the walls are doors that completely open onto a balcony for "alfresco" dining. great wait-staff and very cool decor.
This is a nice place but I think it just should be 3 stars. I was given the wrong cutlery and I had a view of the bathroom. It seems to be the same as at least four other restaurants in Beijing. They didnot have the main course my husband ordered and I think that is not so great for a new restaurant. The food was nice but nothing excellent. I have eaten the exact same dessert before at Tao. And it looks like Salt restaurant at Lido, the decor is exactly the same I think - is it owned by the same people? Its ok, but not sure if I will be back. Three stars for edible food.
Great ambience, excellent service and a nice touch to the menu - paper on a chopping board. First 'sustainable' menu I've seen with a creative twist at possibly half the cost and easily recyclable. We started with a Tiraditos with perfectly sliced salmon and a wonderful helping of rucola. Here, I've had the best risotto in China since leaving Italy. YUM. The portion was deceptively small but the plate had depth and I was stuffed by the time dessert arrived. No one says no to a chocolate souflé, I was scraping the bits off the plate by the time I was done, although I wish it was a vanilla ice cream instead of a mint flavoured one. With the turn of the season, enjoy the alfresco dining while you can. Definitely the perfect place to take your first date, unassuming, casual yet intimate and warm. She won't be disappointed, especially if you bribe her with a chocolate souflé. She'd be sold.
I was happily surprised to find this restaurant in the newly opened Nali Patio mall in Sanlitun. The food is lovely and the restaurant has a very nice design, simple but yet elegant. I have been there now for both lunch and dinner and was very pleased with the selections of courses on the menu. Try the Tuna Tartar, the Fois Gras or Beef Tenderloin, and the Hazelnut Parfait is a must! It isn't easy to find a restaurant with both nice decoration, great food and atmosphere in Beijing but this restaurant has it all!
