Spanning Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Indian cuisine, the menu here is ambitious but succeeds. Everything from the Beijing duck to the chicken tikka is excellent, the service is commendable, and the restaurant has also taken the lead in promoting environmentally sustainable dining. Perfect for a gourmet splurge.
I just enjoyed an excellent lunch at Lunar 8. Though they feature a variety of bento box specials, we decided to order a la carte. The salmon, tuna (sustainable yellowtail) and sweet shrimp sashimi plate was good and scored extra points for the bed of chipped ice that kept all the seafood nice and cold. The salmon wrapped california roll had an excellent texture and was just big enough to constitute a mouthful. I loved the sauteed turnip cake in XO sauce--the julienned veggie atop added an excellent textural dichotomy, though I wished the outside of the turnip cake was a touch crispier. One of the most popular dishes, the deep friend shrimp balls, has a well-deserved reputation. The exterior is a tangle of crispy ribbons of batter encapsulating a deliciously moist, meaty shrimp meat ball. The juice of the day, mango and yogurt, was a tangy variant on a lassi, while the mango sago pomelo dessert was a light, sago studded mango soup. All in all, the meal was delicious and the service was very good--definitely a place to return to!
Excellent take on Asian Fusion food. Excellent blend of flavors and textures. Indian dishes were quite different from other indians in town.Would go back week after week if my salary would support it!
This is the first time I visted this restaurant, I was impressed by the service and food. My waitress Cherry provided a fantastic service for me and the presentaion of the Saki is good as well.

March 20, 2010 As guests from Washington D.C., USA, for a week at the exquisitely designed Fairmont Beijing, it was only natural to dine at the beautiful Lunar 8 restaurant in the hotel. In fact, because of its unique concept of having four individual kitchens and specialized cuisine with a chef for each - Japanese, Indian, Thai and, of course, Chinese - one could dine wonderfully for four different evenings without having to step outside the hotel and confront the hassle of transportation, traffic, weather (in our case, a sandstorm),etc. Following are the dishes from the four cuisines that we have tried which we thoroughly enjoyed and recommend: Appetizer - Marinated Jelly Fish in Red Wine Vinegar, a refreshing, light, crunchy mild flavored starter to stimulate the palate accompanied by a Chilean Savignon Blanc Lapostolle label. Japanese Sashimi and Sushi - Tuna, Salmon, Caviar Encrusted California and Rainbow Roll - "melt in your mouth" tender, non-fishy delightful taste served with ginger, wasabe and soy sauce accompaniment. Thailand Tom Yam Koong Shrimp Soup with Lemon Grass, Kaffir Lime Leaves & Chilies - three plump luscious shrimp with mushrooms in a tangy light mildly spicy light broth. Fairmont Beijing Duck with an Austrailian Pensolds Merlot - the highlight of the dining experience in Bejing. You need to go no further than Lunar 8 for the best Peking Duck in Beijing! We challenge any other restaurant to compete. Indian Chicken Tikka cooked in a traditional Tandoori oven necessary to accomplish the unique authentic flavor for both the chicken and the naan. Scrumptious! Chinese Wok Sweet & Sour Prawn with Fresh Pineapple - If you like a sweet main dish you will absolutely love this dish. The chef managed to give the prawns a slight crunch followed by an exquisite taste. Dessert - Emperor Sweet Pea Puree, a traditional Bejing dessert, accompanied by a Chilean Vendimia Tardia Reisling - small golden slightly sweet squares to finish the dining experience. This restaurant to be commended for its commitment to environmental awareness and responsible tourism by including sustainable seafood choices in support of a global effort to conserve precious marine species. I have experienced the great service and fantastic Lunar 8 gourmet with 3 of my fridends tonight, we ordered their signature Beijing duck, the special condiments presentation is really different to other freestanding duck restaurant and all other dishes we ordered such as seweet & sour prawn, braised superior pork were very tasty as well. The service in Lunar 8 is completed exceed my expectation, our waitress Anny, she was very attentive and showed the 100% care to our needs. The last thing I would like to say is that my child received a great care during this dining, she even recevied a panda doll as her gift when we just sit down.
A contemporary, chic Asian Fusion style restaurant in Beijing's CBD, with four interactive open-kitchens from the Roast Station, to an oriental-style Dim Sum Station, Noodle Station and Tandoor Station. Serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks until late, the tucked away alfresco style dining is finished with a bamboo and rainfall decor. The wall finishings are composed of decorative dark-vein marbles and an impressive gold-leaf on the restaurant's ceiling adds to the vibrant décor.
