Interdenominational congregation with traditionally structured worship. Meets Sunday mornings at 10am at the Capital Club Athletic Center. Choir practice is at 9am, and following services there is a fellowship gathering and coffee hour. In accordance with PRC law, only foreign passport holders are allowed to attend services and meetings.
I too have appreciated this strong community of faith in Beijing; many diverse traditions find a home here in this liturgically based worship. You can’t help but feel you’ve found a piece of ‘west meets east meets west in the east’ when you take part in worship and fellowship on any given Sunday!
Two excellent pastors have recently joined this summer to help guide this friendly, open congregation. It lacks what many of us imagine a church "should" look like in terms of a building (it's housed in the Capital Mansions) but more than makes up for that with it's warm services, thoughtful sermons and spirit of giving. If you are looking for a faith-community in Beijing then I thoroughly recommend giving the Congregation Of the Good Shepherd a "test drive" one Sunday.
A really wonderful, small-ish (80 or so people) congregation. Great for any age group (I'm 25 years old), it also has Sunday school for families, a choir, fascinating and valuable service projects and a strong sense of fellowship and community. In a place as changeable as Beijing, I find COGS offers consistency and a supportive network of expats with a shared faith.
